Enjoy the Re-Opened Cabrillo National Monument this Weekend
Celebrate the re-opening of national parks with a visit to the Cabrillo National Monument during its centennial month.

The Cabrillo National Monument, site of Europeans' first visit to the West Coast in 1542, re-opened Thursday with the end of the government shutdown.
The monument'sΒ 100th anniversary celebration scheduled for the weekend of Oct. 12 was postponed, but admission is free for kids throughout the month of October.
You can tour the old Point Loma Lighthouse, which dates to 1855, inspect the famous statue ofΒ explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, hike, wade in tide pools,Β and take in the expansive views of San Diego, the naval installations,Β Tijuana and the Coronado Islands.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.Β There is a $5 vehicle fee. Plan to spend 2-3 hours to see everything.
