Gas Prices Have Biggest Daily Increase Since February

Gas prices have been on the rise for the past five days, making costs 11.5 cents higher than a week ago.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County recorded its largest daily increase since Feb. 23 today, rising 5.8 cents to $4.236–its highest amount since June 1.

The average price has risen for five consecutive days and is 11.5 cents more than one week ago, 8.6 cents higher than one month ago and 40.7 cents greater than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The increases since Monday are the result of a power failure at the
Torrance Exxon refinery which may cause it to flare gases for a week, reducing
the supply, Marie Montgomery Nordhues of the Automobile Club of Southern
California told City News Service.
