General Plan Update Delayed for Another Month

The Board of Supervisors will take another look next month at the document which outlines how development will be allowed to proceed in the county for the next decade.

The Board of Supervisors Wednesday gave county staff another month to resolve issues that have arisen in the update of the general plan  — the county's outline for  zoning and land use rules.

County officials, planning groups and stakeholders have been working for a dozen years to build consensus and modernize the decades-old plan and bring it into accordance with state law.

Landowners have disagreed with some of the ideas proposed by planners. Water and environmental issues and property rights have been among some of the most contentious issues raised at hearings regarding the update.
