Hunter Introduces Bill To Name Ramona Post Office After 'Mac' MacWilliams
Nelson 'Mac' MacWilliams was one of Hunter's field representatives when he died in a road accident in December.

U.S. Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-Alpine) introduced legislation in the House of Representatives Thursday to name the U.S. Post Office in Ramona in memory of Nelson “Mac” MacWilliams.
MacWilliams worked as a field representative for Rep. Hunter, covering veterans, defense and law enforcement issues in Hunter's El Cajon office.
On Dec. 20, 2011 he was in a road accident that took his life. Soon after, VFW Post 3783, of which MacWilliams was a life member, recommended the Ramona Post Office be named in his honor.

“Mac was an asset to the people of San Diego and the Ramona community,” said Rep. Hunter, who represents the 52nd Congressional District. “After serving in the Navy for 22 years, Mac continued to serve the public in different ways and he was very well-known and respected for his outstanding character and commitment to helping others.
"The Commander of Post 3783, John "Pontiac" Hine, said it best," Hunter stated in a news release: ‘One of Mac’s traits was that he was always on duty.’ Naming a post office after Mac is a way of honoring his life and will serve to remind anyone who enters its doors of Mac’s service to the nation and our community.”

MacWilliams was 54 when the pickup he was driving rolled over on Wildcat Canyon Road in Lakeside.
Hine told Patch on Thursday that the local VFW Post got the post office naming effort started.
"First District Commander Dale Smith (Past Post 3783 Commander) made the suggestion to Duncan Hunter's Office. I also sent the attached letter to his office. Glad to hear it's progressing. We also, last night, renamed our yearly high school scholarship the Nelson "Mac" MacWilliams Memorial Scholarship. We have been receiving donations from the community on behalf of Mac and we are using donations to resource this scholarship."
