Local Employers Plan 'Cautious' Hiring in Early 2014
A survey of employers by Manpower found job prospects are best in construction, durable-goods manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade, information, professional and business services and government.
Employers in the San Diego metropolitan area expect to hire at a "cautious pace" during first quarter of 2014, according to a survey released Tuesday by the temporary help firm Manpower.
From January through March, 15 percent of the local companies interviewed plan to hire more employees, while 11 percent expect to reduce staff, the survey found.
Another 71 percent expect to maintain their current workforce levels and 3 percent are not certain of their hiring plans, Manpower said.

"Although many employers will be taking a conservative approach to hiring, we feel that business will be better than most of them think it’s going to be,” said Manpower San Diego President and CEO Phil Blair. “Trends are picking up."

Manpower San Diego is one of the largest employers in San Diego and southern Riverside counties with approximately 2,500 skilled associates on jobs in office, retail, industrial, technical and health care areas.
