Not Cool: Ramona Temps Could Hit 100 Degrees by Friday

A heat wave is coming to Ramona this weekend, forecasters say.

Put away your skinny jeans and your beer—a heat wave is coming.

Temperatures in Ramona are expected to hit the upper-90s and feel like the low 100s this weekend, part of a regional warmup that could make life miserable if you're not ready. The National Weather Service predicts the hottest weather is likely coming Friday through Monday, with inland valleys looking at highs up to 105º.

Ouch.

So while you're stocking up on popsicles and finding places to plug in all of your fans, think about making plans to drop in at one of the local county Cool Zones for free air conditioning and a chance to hang out with other people in the community.

  • Ramona Library, 1275 Main St.: Monday, Wednesday 9:30-6 p.m.; Tuesday, Thursday 9:30-8 p.m.; Friday, Saturday 9:30-5 p.m.
  • Ramona Senior Center, 434 Aqua Lane: Monday-Friday 8:30-4 p.m.
  • Julian Library, 1850 Highway 78: Tuesday 9 a.m.-8 p.m.; Wednesday,Thursday 9-6 p.m.; Friday, Saturday 9-5 p.m.
But if you're going to be hanging outside, leave your skinny jeans and, yes, your beer behind. Forecasters recommend lightweight, loose clothing and non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated drinks when you're out in the sun. Other tips:
  • Avoid strenuous outdoor activity if possible.
  • Wear a hat to shield yourself from the sun.
  • Use sunscreen to reduce possible sunburn.
  • Take advantage of air conditioning and shade if possible.
  • Never leave children or pets in enclosed vehicles, even briefly.
