RAMONA, CA — A man was killed in a head-on crash on Labor Day in Ramona.

The deadly crash happened at 3:41 a.m. Monday when a man lost control of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta he was driving on northbound state Route 67, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The car drove over the double yellow lines near Boortz Lane, went into the southbound lane, and crashed head-on into a 2019 Toyota Camry, CHP Officer Jared Grieshaber said.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 23-year-old Ramona resident, died at the scene, Grieshaber said. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Toyota, a 20-year-old woman from Ramona, was taken to Palomar Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, Grieshaber said.

The crash remained under investigation. It was not immediately clear if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, Grieshaber said.
