Ramona Water Board Passes Boot Around For Burn Institute

Though the "Pass the Boot" fundraiser was weeks ago, board members emptied their pockets Tuesday to give to the cause.

The Ramona Water Board emptied their pockets during Tuesday's meeting to help out a local burn institute.

Ramona Fire Department/Cal Fire Battalion Chief Burke Kremensky passed a boot around after giving a brief presentation on the success of the agency's boot drive two weeks ago, which was headed by 44 fire departments across the county.

The funds benefitted the San Diego County Burn Institute, which supplies a camp each year to burn-injured children called Camp Beyond the Scars, held in Ramona last year.

Kremensky said the Ramona efforts alone raised $900, with a more than $17,000 raised county-wide.

After giving his presentation, Kremensky showed board members the boots in which they collect the funds and said he wasn't there to collect, but board members still dug deep into their pockets for cash.

Ramona Municipal Water District General Manager said the firefighters would make sure their money got back to the SD Burn Institute, even though the drive is over.
