SDG&E Crews Sent to Help New York Recover Returning Home

When Superstorm Sandy thrashed the East Coast last month, millions of people lost power in their homes and businesses after utility poles came down, taking the power lines with them.

Ramona has had its own share of goodwill from a local lantern store and senior center director, but San Diego Gas & Electric also joined the relief efforts.

San Diego Gas & Electric joined about 100 other utilities across the country in sending work crews and equipment to the area, restoring power to customers that had been in the dark and without heat since Oct. 29.

After almost two weeks working long hours in weather somewhat less pleasant than we have here back home, the 42 SDG&E workers will return to San Diego Tuesday night. They traveled to the East Coast on Nov. 1 aboard a military transport jet big enough to carry several work trucks and will return on a commercial flight.

While they were there they restored power to more than 700 power customers in Warwick, N.Y., then moved south to Yonkers to continue their work repairing downed poles and lines.
