Toughest Cowboys To Wear Pink at Ramona Rodeo

Part of the proceeds of this weekend's event will go to cancer research.

There will be a changing of colors at this weekend's Ramona Rodeo, from red, white and blue on Friday to pink on Saturday.

Friday night is Patriot Night and the Rodeo will give away 11" by 18" flags to the first 500 people through the gate.

"It's a tribute to the Armed Services," event coordinator Joani Georgeson told Patch. "We'd like everyone to wear red, white and blue, but they don't have to."

A portion of proceeds from this year's event will go to cancer research, so Saturday night's theme is pink. Even the tough guys will wear it, Georgeson said.

"Our stock contractor Jerry Honeycutt has told me it's going to be like a National Finals Rodeo, because we've got the toughest guys out there," she said.

Ramona Rodeo is a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) event.

The first 1,000 people through the gates Saturday night will be given pink leis.

Georgeson said she really wants to hear some noise from the seats this year, albeit orderly noise.

"We really want spectator involvement. We want some hootin' and hollerin.' Jerry (Honeycutt) said Ramona's got the most polite and quiet crowd. We don't want to be impolite but we'd like to hear some noise. It's only a 9-second ride for a cowboy. Nothing makes a cowboy happier than hearing the crowd."

Singers of the National Anthem this year will be: Cheryl Trammel (Friday night); Tess Beatty (Saturday night); and Alexavria Zetterberg (noon and 2:30 p.m. Sunday).

The band Agua Vera Revue will perform at a dance concert Saturday immediately following the rodeo, at about 9:30 p.m.

Rodeo performance times:

Friday -- 7:30 p.m.

Saturday -- 7:30 p.m.

Sunday -- 2:30 p.m.
