Warner Springs Area Gets New Fire Station
The volunteer fire department at Sunshine Summit, near Warner Springs, has new digs.
Sunshine Summit's new volunteer fire station was officially opened Saturday. The $500,000 fire station building is 2,200 square feet. It comes with a backup fuel supply, new sleeping quarters and restroom.
According to a news release from the County of San Diego, Sunshine Summit is one of several small fire departments to get upgraded facilities. Improvements have been completed at Campo, Boulevard and Ocotillo Wells. The County is also improving stations in De Luz and Deer Springs.
County Supervisor Bill Horn was the keynote speaker at Saturday's station opening.

The news release notes that over the past six years, the County has formed the County Fire Authority to unify administrative and communications efforts by volunteer fire agencies, increased the number of volunteer firefighters, bought 37 more engines and expanded service hours.
The design of the new Sunshine Summit station is to provide facilities so firefighters can give 24-hour, 7-day a week service.
