  1. Ground was broken this week on a low income 175-unit affordable housing development in Rancho Bernardo. Tizon development will provide studio apartments to seniors with income up to 60 percent of San Diego’s area median income, currently $50,940 per year, for a one-person household. The apartments will remain affordable for 55 years. A former hotel, Tizon will include a community room with game area, a computer room for residents, TV lounge, community laundry room, community kitchen, urban garden, property management and social services.   2. Bernardo Heights Country Club’s ‘Swing for a Cure’ raised over $50K for the La Jolla Institute of Immunology. The event last month culminated with a golf tournament on March 10. Money was raised through silent and live auctions, with many items donated by club members and local businesses. The funds raised will aid immunotherapy-based cancer cure research.
