- Rancho Bernardo residents appreciate nature. They see it all around them. Bobcats, coyotes, roadrunners, and other wild animals can be found in the area. From the sweet little hummingbirds to those grand egrets, Rancho Bernardo residents celebrate the beauty of the birds around them. In particular, the Rancho Bernardo egrets are much loved. - Even with a spike in burglaries, crime in 4S Ranch has decreased to the lowest level in six years. “The 4S Ranch deputies have been proactive in targeting crime in 4S Ranch,” said Eric Kant, the crime prevention specialist at the Poway Patrol Station, which oversees 4S Ranch. “They have been conducting extra patrols in targeted areas, as well as conducting extra patrols in our targeted shopping centers. - Crime is up around the nation, and Rancho Bernardo is no exception when it comes to an increase in crime. “Police departments across the nation are combatting rises in crime, and although San Diego historically ranks as one of the safest big cities, our city is also seeing an increase in crime,” said Police Chief David Nisleit.
