San Diego Police Investigate Fire That Killed 2 Children

A 7-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy were killed in a Rancho Bernardo apartment fire last weekend.

SAN DIEGO, CA -- A Rancho Bernardo fire that killed two children last weekend is being investigated by the San Diego Police Department.

The fire, which began around 3 a.m. last Saturday near Bernardo Center Drive, is being investigated by the department's Homicide Unit and the Metro Arson Strike Team, Lt. Mike Holden said.

The origin of the fire has not been determined, however, items recovered from the scene are being tested, Holden said.

Holden said the father, 37, is not a suspect in the case and was severely injured in the fire.

It's unclear how long the investigation will take.
