2024 Election Results In RSM: City Council, Assembly District

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — The polls have closed in Rancho Santa Margarita, and soon residents will know who will represent them on their city council, assembly district and more.

Rancho Santa Margarita voters decided who they want to represent them as Mayor at-large this 2024 General Election season. Rancho Santa Margarita residents will choose between Tony Mata, Myrta Rivera and Tony Beall.

As of 9 a.m. Wednesday, Beall led the mayors race by a large margin with 73.56 percent of the vote. Rivera followed with 17.18 percent of the vote, and Mata trailed with 9.26 percent of the vote.

In District 3, residents chose between current Mayor Carol Gamble and candidate Keri Lynn Baert.
However, after Gamble pled guilty to falsifying documents needed to run for election, the Orange County District Attorney's Office stated that she will no longer be eligible to hold the seat — even if elected.

If Gamble is elected, the city will host a special election to determine a new candidate.

As of 9 a.m. Wednesday, Baert led the race to represent Rancho Santa Margarita's 3rd District with 53.69 percent of the vote. Gamble trailed at 46.31 percent.

Voters also decided who they want to represent them in Assembly District 71. The district, which encompasses Ladera Ranch, Mission Viejo and Rancho Santa Margarita, is currently represented by Republican Kate Sanchez.

This election season, voters will choose between Sanchez and Democrat Gary Kephart.

As of 9 a.m. Wednesday and with 100 percent of precincts reporting, Sanchez led the race with 61.53 percent of the vote. Kephart trailed behind with 38.47 percent of the vote.
