Boys Basketball: Regional Championship Schedule

The California State Basketball Championship brackets were released on Sunday, and three south Orange County teams are included in the Division I playoffs.

El Toro and Mission Viejo, which shared the South Coast League title, are seeded third and eighth, respectively, the primary difference being El Toro reached the finals of the Southern Section Division 1A playoffs and Mission was beaten in the quarterfinals of the higher 1AA.

Dana Hills, which finished second to San Clemente but who reached the semifinals for the first time in school history in 1A, is the 13th-seeded team.

Tesoro, beaten in the 2A semifinals after an injury to Tanner Lancona, is seeded 14th in Division II.

Santa Margarita, beaten in the 3AA finals, is seeded 12th in Division III. Curiously, the team it defeated in the semifinals, Lawndale Leuzinger, is seeded ninth.

The winners of the Southern California Regionals will compete for the State Championship at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento the weekend of March 22-23.

This marks the first year there has been an Open Division in the state playoffs in which the elite programs participate. Two teams from the Trinity League, of which Santa Margarita and JSerra compete locall, are included: Second-seeded Mater Dei and sixth-seeded St. John Bosco.
