Bogart, Elvis, and Wang Chung
Worthwhile notes for Rancho Santa Margarita-area residents.

Taking a look at what's going down and coming up for residents in the Rancho Santa Margarita area.
• An adults-only showing of Casablanca, starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, begins at dusk at Central Park, courtesy of SAMLARC. Persons under 18 years will be asked to leave. The event is free.
• Where were you on Aug. 16, 1977? That's the day Elvis Presley died 36 years ago and spawned a cottage industry of impersonators, pilgrimages to Memphis, and a zillion “sightings.” Though closely identified with the South, which is celebrating Elvis Week in his hometown, there is a south Orange County connection as well. One of his former bodyguards, Dave Hebler, lived off and on in Mission Viejo for 20 years, and still visits the area to see friends and family.
• Freaky! A sea snail hatched inside an Aliso Viejo boy's leg after he skinned his knee at the beach three weeks earlier.
• Curious about the murder investigation that started the Orange County crime lab? Read about it here.
• Calling all cowboys, cowgirls and city slickers. San Juan Capistrano Rodeo Week 2013 moseys into town Friday and rides off into the sunset Aug. 25.
• The Crossroads of the West Gun Show kicks off at 9 a.m. Sunday at the OC Fair and Event Center. Main Mall, Santa Ana Pavilion and the Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Anaheim and Los Alamitos buildings, 88 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa.
• Everybody have fun tonight—well, have fun on Saturday, when Wang Chung plays at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. Tickets are $20.
• The Ribs, Pigs and Watermelons Beer Festival and Pro Barbecue Competition begins at 5 p.m. Friday in Huntington Beach. The three-day event includes a kids barbecue-eating competition, a watermelon seed spitting contest and live entertainment. It’s at Beach Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway, Lot 10.
