Briefing RSM, Aug. 29: Cyclist Critical, Apparently at Fault

Worthwhile notes for Rancho Santa Margarita-area residents.

By Martin Henderson

Taking a look at what's going down and coming up for residents in the Rancho Santa Margarita area.

• The investigation is ongoing, but more details about the incident are available and it appears the bicyclist hit by a truck on Tuesday on Santa Margarita Parkway was at fault after trying apparently trying to dart across traffic.

• Did the Capistrano Unified School District put one over on the state, getting more than $123,000 in lost revenues by claiming a mass hooky the day before Christmas break was because of fears arising from the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting seven days earlier? Read all about it here.

• Maybe the CUSD can take that reimbursement money and replace two computer labs at Tesoro High. You don't think so? Then consider helping the Tesoro Titan Foundation do what the district can't.

• Do you get into trouble using credit? Smart Spending takes a look at how you can reap the benefit of certain credit cards.

• Do you know how new construction affects the value of your home? How about seven common mistakes made by home sellers? A couple of blogs by Patricia Platt might come in handy.
