It was 50 feet by 200 feet when the first firefighters arrived, burning uphill in medium to heavy brush, he said.
Additional resources were summoned and ultimately a total of 75 firefighters responded along with 20 pieces of apparatus, including a helicopter, Gonzales said.

The fire jumped a road to a second slope just below at least 20 homes, but quick action by firefighters halted the flames in about 30 minutes, he said, adding that crews were stationed for structure protection during the fire fight.
Firefighters remained on scene afterward mopping up hot spots, Gonzales said.
