Cox Restores Voicemail

After , Cox digital phone customers in Orange County regained service early Thursday, the company said.

But old saved messages and greetings vanished in the process.

"During the night, Cox worked with our hardware and software vendors to restore the voicemail system," company spokeswoman Ceanne Guerra said. "When we initially brought the system back online [Wednesday], we encountered a number of technical issues. To get the voicemail service working again and to ensure the stability of the system, we had to take a more aggressive approach ... that has resulted in the loss of saved messages and greetings."

Intermittent problems may continue to flare up Thursday, Guerra said, as Cox "tests the restored system and ensures it remains stable."

Guerra said affected customers would receive a credit on their bill.
