Crime: Code Name—'Bond,' or Something Else Really Cool

A man is ready to help the authorities, though it's unclear whether he has a license to kill. That, and other calls to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

With the lost hikers in Trabuco Canyon, it's apparent that many people wanted to help the Orange County Sheriff's Department with its business.

But the offers started coming in before news of the lost hikers became public.

A man called the sheriff department’s business line and let it be known he was available to help out the OCSD with whatever it needed help out with—then hung up.

According to the department's crime blotter, on a callback the man stated he was a "confidential informant" and had been attempting to call the Federal Bureau of Investigations, although the phone number for the OCSD may have been easier to find.

The man then provided to the operator his code name and radio handle.

The desk commander was advised of the gracious offer for help, and deputies made a welfare check of the man.

The call was made Sunday, 10:47 p.m. from Via Amistosa.

The following is a summary of selected calls from Rancho Santa Margarita to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department on March 31 and April 1, 2013.

Disturbance, Monday, 9:01 p.m., 22400 block of Alma Aldea. An assistant manager reported five females by the pool and they refused to leave.

Disturbance, Monday, 3:59 p.m., from Via Verde and Encantado .A resident reported 8-10 subjects were drunk in the pool area and a woman was seen allegedly selling drugs.

Disturbance, Monday, 1:35 p.m., from Robinson Ranch and Sentinel Dr. An informant reported two men in a red Ford arguing with a man in a maroon Jeep Liberty.

Follow up report, Monday, 11:48 a.m., from Santa Margarita Parkway and Plano Trabuco. A man who had reported his pickup stolen said he had found it; he had parked it near Jack in the Box and then forgot where he parked it.

Citizen assist, Monday, 9:50 a.m., from Via Latigo.  A woman said her phone was taken from a restaurant on Easter night and she pinged it to the Latigo address.

Suspicious persons/circumstances, Sunday, 11:27 p.m., 22400 block of Alma Aldea. An informant reported a man knocking on the door and attempt to open it. When the informant looked outside, the man was vomiting. He may have been drunk, and left on foot.

Citizen assist, Sunday, 10:14 a.m., on Azalea. A woman felt someone had been in her home while she was out previously.

Pedestrian check, Sunday, 5:24 a.m., Plano Trabuco Road and Santa Margarita Parkway. Deputies picked up a runaway boy from Boys Town. He was eventually released to his guardian.

Disturbance, Sunday, 2:06 a.m., from Via Cresta. An informant reported hearing a verbal argument between a man and woman coming from the residence behind it. Deputies investigated the yelling and screaming and took into custody Deron Quarren Hollins, 33.
