Fantastic Sam's Celebrates Success, Grand Reopening

The haircutting salon throws a party for its supporters as it cuts the ribbon on a new beginning.

The national anthem was sung, Ms. America was on-hand, and a haircutting salon had a big pair of scissors at the ready.

The scissors weren't for hair, however. —a fixture in the community for 20 years—cut the ribbon on a new beginning under owners Nelson Smith and wife Rosanne Hawxhurst.

Located in Antonio Plaza between Pavilions and Baskin Robbins, balloons and local luminaries, as well as the Chamber of Commerce, celebrated on a chamber of commerce evening.

Young Mary Desmond sang the Star Spangled Banner, which she will also sing at an upcoming Angels game, and Ms. America Tracy Broughton of Ladera Ranch stood by in tiara and sash.

Also on hand was a representative from Senator Mimi Walters' office, and Mayor Tony Beall, who delivered a proclamation before the gathering.

Smith called it "a community celebration."

"We wanted to thank the community for three years of success, and to share with them about feelings and thoughts with being tied to the community and how important it is to give back," Smith said, "so we thought we'd throw a party for them"
