New Veterans Memorial Proposed In Rancho Santa Margarita
The Rancho Santa Margarita City Council is considering options to create a new monument to honor veterans at Central Park.
RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — City leaders are considering plans to install a new veterans memorial in Rancho Santa Margarita's Central Park.
According to The Orange County Register, the city council discussed the proposed design for an arch-style monument during a meeting last week, which would be built in the park that hosts the annual Veterans Tribute, along with 9/11 and Flag Day events. The existing Armed Forces plaque created by a Boy Scouts troop would be relocated or worked into the new memorial.
As the Register reports, the Glendale-based Southern California Bronze Company is working on a design for free, and the estimated cost for construction is $78,000.

Plans included in the council's July 10 agenda show a 12-foot wide arc design with granite plaques for each military branch, with a style reminiscent of City Hall.
The city is still exploring fundraising options to cover the cost, with construction not expected to begin until the next fiscal year.
