Week Ahead Thru July 28: Drowning Fallout, Rick Warren
Some things in the week ahead that might be worthwhile to residents of Rancho Santa Margarita.

Taking a look at what's going down and coming up for residents of Rancho Santa Margarita.
• It figures to be a well-attended HOA meeting Tuesday, 6 p.m., at the Beach Club when SAMLARC discusses AEDs, or automatic external defibrillators. There were none on hand at the Beach Club during a July 4 drowning, and first-responders said the presence of one would have increased the chances of Xavier Ergueta's survival.
• Rick Warren begins preaching Saturday, 4:30 p.m., marking the first time the Saddleback Church pastor has taught since the death of his son in April. Warren will speak both Saturday and Sunday on the topic, "How to Get Through What You're Going Through."
• Don't worry if you hear the sirens wail from San Onofre beginning Wednesday and continuing periodically through Aug. 2. It's just a routine testing of the emergency alert system.
• The Orange County Fair continues Wednesday through Sunday with its annual collection of pig races, freaky fried food, carnival rides, exhibits and more. Click here for schedules, directions and other information. Drop by City Hall for special $2 off full-price tickets while they last.
• What's a few miles for surfers? The Vans U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach continues through Sunday. Monday's events include a screening of The Goonies and Round 1 of the men's competition. There's also plenty of skateboarding action. For a schedule of events, click here.
• Ever wonder what your pet goes through when it's locked in the car? Armed with a thermometer, video camera and (we hope) lots of antiperspirant, a Patch Editor Plays ‘Pet in a Hot Car.’
