Annual Report Grades Cities' Efforts Against Tobacco

The American Lung Association released its annual State of Tobacco Control report for California on Wednesday. 

Eighteen municipalities in the state earned an A grade, with another 33 cities/counties earning a B, according to the report. Despite cities raising their grades in certain areas, nearly two-thirds of cities and counties still receive a failing grade in the report.

Among the cities to top the grades was Baldwin Park, which passed new smoke free housing ordinances in 2013.

They beat Loma Linda, known for healthy living and its renowned medical center and children's hospital. They remained the top ranked city in San Bernardino County, earning a B grade. The only mark against the city remains its efforts in controlling the sale of tobacco products. Redlands received an F grade.

Back in Los Angeles County, Long Beach received a C grade, putting it in the middle of the pack among the state’s top 10 cities. The city receives an A for its efforts in controlling the sale of tobacco products.

Other Los Angeles County cities grades are: Artesia, D; Cerritos, C; Claremont, F; La Verne, F; Lynwood, D; and South Gate, F.
