Boy, 4, Accidentally Shoots, Kills Cousin, 2, In California: Cops

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's office has arrested the grandfather who is accused of leaving a gun where it was accessible to the kids.

MUSCOY, CA — Authorities have arrested a San Bernardino county grandfather after a 4-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his 2-year-old cousin, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies responded to a home on Duffy Street in Muscoy just after 9:15 a.m. on Friday for the report of a shooting. The 2-year-old girl was found suffering from a gunshot wound and taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead just after 10 a.m.

The sheriff's office said that the boy, 4, was in possession of the handgun and accidentally shot his cousin.

Authorities said the victim's grandfather, Cesar Lopez, left the gun in an area that was accessible to the children.

Lopez was charged with felon endangerment and felon in possession of a firearm.
