Bridge Demolition: WB 60 to be Closed at Nason Saturday Night, Early Sunday

The westbound 60 Freeway in Moreno Valley will be closed eight hours Saturday night through Sunday morning while workers demolish the north half of the old Nason Street overpass, city and contract engineering officials said.

There were delays on the eastbound 60 in Moreno Valley late Friday May 31 early Saturday June 1 while workers used metal-cutting acetylene torches and heavy machinery armed with jackhammers to tear down the south side of the old bridge.

Workers with the city and Falcon Engineering are doing the work in steps to ensure the new Nason Street overpass is not damaged and to keep the freeway open in one direction during demolition, according to Moreno Valley construction inspector Danny Astorga.

According to the city, the westbound 60 will be closed at Nason from 11 p.m. Saturday June 1 to 7 a.m. Sunday June 2, and the eastbound 60 will remain open, according to city officials. A map of the detour is attached to this report.
