Brush Fire Scorches 50 Acres In San Bernardino

The fire near Glen Helen Regional Park, which was dubbed Meyers Fire, was not contained as of 3:30 p.m.

SAN BERNARDINO, CA -- A brush fire broke out Tuesday afternoon in San Bernardino, scorching 50 acres. The fire was reported near the Highway 15 and Highway 215 junction, according to Cal Fire.

The fire near Glen Helen Regional Park, which was dubbed Meyers Fire, was not contained as of 3:30 p.m., Cal Fire reported.

The Meyers Fire is the third burning the county. A fire broke out around 2 p.m. in the Cajon Pass, while crews were battling another fire off the 215 Freeway near University Parkway. The Little Mountain Fire prompted evacuations in the region.

Elsewhere in California, crews were battling a fire in Ventura County that rapidly burned 50,000 acres. Los Angeles County also saw Rye Fire, which burned 1,000 acres, and Creek Fire, which burned 11,000 acres.

The rapid rate of the brush fires prompted Gov. Jerry Brown to declare a state of emergency as thousands of personnel battle the flames.

One firefighter was injured in the Thomas Fire in Ventura County, but no deaths were reported.
