Redlands police traffic officers are planning a DUI/drivers license checkpoint for Friday night, a city spokesman announced Wednesday.
The checkpoint is scheduled from 7 p.m. July until midnight July 19 in westbound lanes of Citrus Avenue west of Central Avenue, Redlands spokesman Carl Baker said.
"Officers will contact drivers passing through Friday’s checkpoint looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment," Baker said in a statement. "Officers will also check drivers for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily. When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving."
Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail, license suspension, and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $10,000, Baker advised.
Last weekend, on Saturday July 12, traffic officers on a grant-funded saturation patrol arrested one driver for driving under the influence, Baker said.
Funding for the checkpoint comes from a grant by the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
