An electrical problem ignited a fire that damaged a home Sunday in a Redlands neighborhood near Interstate 10, a city spokesman said.
The fire was reported shortly before 11 a.m. Aug. 18 in the 500 block of 11th Street, Redlands spokesman Carl Baker said in a statement.
"When firefighters arrived they saw heavy black smoke coming from the attic vents," Baker. "Firefighters were initially unable to access the back of the house due to a large dog in the back yard. Once the resident confined the dog, firefighters were able to continue their fire attack."
Firefighters cut holes in the roof and ceiling to access and extinguish the fire, Baker said. Knockdown was declared on the fire within 10 minutes. The fire was contained to the attic.
"Crews remained on scene for another hour to salvage contents, search for hidden fires and investigate," Baker said. "The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical issue in the attic."
No injuries to firefighters, residents or pets were reported, Baker said. Damage to property and contents of the home were estimated at $10,000.
