Former San Bernardino Area Resident Accused of Sex with Girl Under 13, FBI Seeks Info on Other Possible Victims
A former San Bernardino area resident is accused of repeated sexually abusing a girl under age 13 on the East Coast, and the FBI released his photos Tuesday in Southern California because they believe he may have victimized other children who have not yet been identified.
The suspect is identified by the FBI as Joseph Anthony Caracciolo, 47, also known as Joseph Crillo, Joseph Grillo, and Tony Gallardo, according to FBI officials in Newark, N.J.
Caracciolo is a registered sex offender charged with sexually assaulting a 12-year-old New Jersey girl who gave birth to a daughter in April, federal officials said.
"Based on evidence found during the investigation, agents in Newark believe Caracciolo may have victimized children who have not yet been identified," a spokeswoman for the FBI in Los Angeles said Tuesday.
On Aug. 30, Caracciolo was charged by the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of New Jersey in a federal complaint with traveling "in interstate commerce for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with another person, namely, a sexual act with a person younger than 18 years of age," FBI officials in Newark said in a statement.
Between May 2012 to August 2012, Caracciolo allegedly travelled from New York to Atlantic County, N.J., as well as locations in Pennsylvania to sexually abuse the girl, according to the federal complaint. The girl was under the age of 13 at the time of the abuse.
Caracciolo allegedly had intercourse with the girl in her home in Egg Harbor Township, and again when the two took a trip to the Poconos, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. She gave birth to girl in April this year when she was 13, and she later identified Caracciolo as the father.
She told investigators she and Caracciolo kept in touch through phone calls and text messages while she was pregnant. She agreed to cooperate with authorities.
"Caracciolo is a registered sex offender listed in the national Sex Offender Public Website," FBI officials said. "Since August of 2005, he has been in violation of the sex offender registration requirements."
In the early to mid 1990s, Caracciolo may have lived in Florida, namely the Orlando, Boca Raton and Palm Beach areas, as well as in California, according to the FBI.
"From 2003 to 2005, he is believed to have travelled extensively and resided in California, particularly the Sacramento and San Bernardino areas," FBI officials in New Jersey said.
Caracciolo has allegedly represented himself as a chef, pediatric dentist, business owner, sales-person, and an electrician's assistant, according to the FBI. In addition, he has allegedly claimed to be suffering from cancer.
"Caracciolo is known to have frequented Atlantic City casinos, allegedly using aliases and conducting gambling transactions in the names of others he meets there," FBI officials said.
Caracciolo has several tattoos, to include:
- A tattoo of Ivy on his left finger.
- A chef in a chef's hat with the words "Top Chef" and an underlying quote on the forearm.
- A cancer ribbon with boxing gloves on Forearm.
- The initials AJ on the inner left wrist.
- The letter "M" on inner right wrist.
- The initials NY on the left upper arm.
- An "X" between the webbing of the thumb and index finger.
