
Update 8:40 p.m. The gas line rupture in Yucaipa was reported about 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, Denise King of the Southern California Gas Company said in a phone interview.
About 20 apartments and homes were without gas while workers repaired the 1-inch diameter pipe, King said.
Posted 8:25 p.m. A backhoe operator struck and ruptured a gas line Wednesday in the 12300 block of 3rd Street, prompting evacuation orders and a road closure, a sheriff's spokeswoman said in a statement.
The Aloha Manor Apartments and at least four homes in the 34700 block of View Drive were evacuated, Cindy Bachman of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said at 8 p.m. Aug. 14.
Authorities closed 3rd Street between Yucaipa Boulevard and Avenue D, Bachman said.
No injuries were reported. Southern California Gas Company workers were on scene. Repairs were expected to take up to four hours, Bachman said.
A representative for the Gas Company could not immediately be reached for comment.
