Highland Deputies Chase Stolen Vehicle, Two Suspects Bail, Driver Gets Away

Deputies in Highland chased a sedan early Thursday that turned out to be stolen, the car crashed into a curb, and one person was taken into custody but the driver got away, according to the Sheriff's Department.

The pursuit began just before 1 a.m. June 6 when deputies tried to stop a 2008 Acura TSX for unspecified moving violations, Sgt. J. Smith of the Highland Station said in a statement.

The driver of the Acura did not pull over and led deputies on a short pursuit, Smith said. The Acura struck a curb near Sterling Avenue and East Highland Avenue, about a block south of the 210 Freeway.

The driver and passenger ran from the crash and deputies learned the vehicle was stolen from Moreno Valley, Smith said.

"The passenger was found hiding a short distance from the vehicle and was taken into custody," Smith said. "The juvenile passenger had a no bail warrant and was booked at juvenile hall."

The driver was said to be still at large. No suspect description was provided.

Anyone with more information was urged to call the Highland Station at (909) 425-9793.
