Motorists from Redlands, Loma Linda and elsewhere in the Inland Empire can anticipate night lane closures on Interstate 15 and Interstate 215 in the Cajon Pass next week, Monday May 20 to Thursday May 23, Caltrans District 8 officials said Friday.
Pre-construction geologic boring and surveying on the planned Devore Interchange Project will take place weather permitting, according to Caltrans. No detours will be necessary as at least one or more lanes will remain open on both freeways.
"As part of the Devore Interchange Project, crews will conduct pre-construction geotechnical boring and surveying activities at night," Caltrans officials said. "These activities will necessitate nighttime lane closures on I-215 and I-15 for the safety of the public and workers."
More than one million drivers travel through the Devore Interchange each week, according to Caltrans. The interchange has been identified as one of the worst grade-related bottlenecks in the nation, Terri Kasinga of Caltrans District 8 said Friday in a phone interview.
Earlier this week and last weekend, three fires in five days close to one or both of the freeways prompted closures and delays near Devore.
