A fire that broke out Thursday in heavy timber in the Wrightwood area northwest of Loma Linda and Redlands has burned more than 100 acres and mandatory evacuations were in place for some residents, a spokeswoman for the Forest Service said Friday.

The fire was first reported around 12:15 p.m. Aug. 8 in the area of Desert View Drive and Orchard Drive, south of Highway 2.

"Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for Mojave Scenic Drive, Buckhorn Road, East Canyon Drive, Mount Mahogany Road, Slippery Elm Road, and Lone Pine Canyon Road south of East Canyon," Sherry Rollman of the Angeles National Forest said in an update.

An evacuation center has been set up at Serrano High School, 9292 Sheep Creek Road in Phelan, Rollman said.

No injuries have been reported, no structures have been reported as lost and no containment date has been projected, Rollman said.

There were 380 personnel assigned to the fire, according to the Forest Service. The fire was estimated 5 percent contained as of Friday morning.
