Toddler Found in Bottom of Pool, Deputy Restores Heartbeat, Taken to Loma Linda Unconscious

A 3-year-old boy was found at the bottom of an above-ground pool Thursday in Yucaipa, a deputy restored his heartbeat, and he was taken unconscious to Loma Linda University Medical Center, according to the Sheriff's Department.
On Wednesday, another 3-year-old boy was found unresponsive in a pool at a home in San Bernardino and he died, according to the coroner.
The incident in Yucaipa was reported at 7:49 p.m. Aug. 8, when deputies were dispatched to the 34000 block of Avenue J. An off-duty deputy responded from the Yucaipa Station and he was first to arrive.
The deputy found the boy with his grandmother near the pool, Yucaipa Station personnel said.
"The grandmother was attempting to give the child CPR and the deputy took over and quickly evaluated his condition," Yucaipa Station personnel said. "The child had no heartbeat, was not breathing, and did not respond to stimulation. The deputy began CPR while waiting for medical aid to arrive, and was able to restore the toddler's heartbeat and the child began to breathe on his own."
The boy did not regain consciousness and he was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center by ambulance, deputies said.
An investigation was being conducted and all family members and witnesses were to be interviewed. An update on the toddler's condition was not available Friday.
