Two Women Fatally Injured in Crash, One Dies at Loma Linda University Medical Center

Two women were fatally injured in a crash Friday in the Helendale area and one of them was pronounced deceased at Loma Linda University Medical Center, according to the coroner.

The women were both passengers in a 2001 Chevrolet Impala, and they were identified as Nella White, 77, of Escondido, and Beatrice Cook, 83, of Ceres.

The crash occurred about 3:15 p.m. Aug. 23 when the Impala was southbound on Highway 395 north of Buckthorne Canyon Road in Helendale and collided head on with a northbound vehicle, coroner's personnel said in a statement.

"Paramedics responded and Whitt was pronounced dead at the scene at about 3:30 P.M.," coroner's personnel said. "Cook was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at approximately 9:15 P.M."

The California Highway Patrol was investigating.
