Falling on the last Monday of May each year, Memorial Day honors those who lost their lives while serving in the military. It's a federal holiday that many people get off from work, resulting in a three-day weekend.

This year, Memorial Day falls on May 27, and for many, this holiday weekend marks the unofficial start of summer. We've rounded up some things to do Memorial Day Weekend in and around Redlands-Loma Linda. Please note: We recommend calling ahead to confirm the hours and access before you head out the door.


Redlands Festival Of Arts

When: Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26
Where: Smiley Park, 126 S. Eureka St., Redlands, CA 92373
What: The Redlands Festival of Arts offers a weekend of fun and artistic celebration, with over 100 artists from across the country competing this year. Kids can partake in various creative activities, including a live chalk art competition for high school students. There will also be multiple musical stages and a food/beer/wine garden for all to enjoy.

25th Annual Redlands Firefighter Car Show

When: Sunday, May 26 - 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
Where: Downtown Redlands, Redlands, CA 92373
What: Show off your vehicle and your support for Redland’s firefighters during this family-friendly car show. Guests can enjoy live music, food and refreshments, shopping with local vendors and more. Best of all, 100% of event proceeds will benefit local charities.

Veteran Suicide Awareness Project: Memorial Day Ruck March

When: Sunday, May 26 - 10:30 p.m. into Monday, May 27 - 8:00 a.m.
Where: Start at Park and Ride behind the American Legion Post 328, 3888 Old Hamner Rd., Norco, CA, 92860
What: The 9th Annual Memorial Day Ruck March aims to raise awareness of veteran suicide and the mental health challenges veterans may face. The march will end at the Riverside National Cemetery (participants do not have to complete the entire distance). Though there is no cost for the ruck, donations will be accepted, with proceeds going to the Ronald McDonald House on behalf of the Veteran Suicide Awareness Project.

Memorial Day Ceremony

When: Monday, May 27 - 10:45 a.m.
Where: Hillside Memorial Park, 1540 Alessandro Rd., Redlands, CA 92373
What: Hosted by American Legion Posts 106 and 650, the Memorial Day Ceremony will honor those who lost their lives for our country. Speakers will include retired U.S. Air Force ChiefMaster Sgt. Jacki Mortenson and A.K. Smiley Public Library Director DonMcCue; there will also be a performance by the Patriot Horns.
