Car Crashes Into Baskin-Robbins

A woman drives her car into the front of the Baskin-Robbins ice cream store in Riviera Village.

Only the wall appeared to be injured after a woman accidentally crashed her car into the front of the on Avenue I in Riviera Village at about 10:45 a.m. Thursday.

Four fire trucks, including at least one engine, from the Torrance Fire Department responded to the crash. Though the Baskin-Robbins has a Redondo Beach address, it is under the jurisdiction of the Torrance police and fire departments.

"I thought it was a car wreck," said witness George Goodpasture, who was working nearby at the Bull Pen when the collision occurred. He added that he later heard the sound of broken glass and realized what happened.

The woman, who was on her way to get her hair done at , was treated at the scene, according to a policewoman who responded. Her Mercedes' airbag did not deploy during the crash.

Witnesses said the victim is a regular customer at the hair salon.

The policewoman was overheard telling the manager of the Baskin-Robbins that the damage appeared to be mostly superficial; no load-bearing walls appear to have been compromised.
