Hit-And-Run Suspect Sought After Crashing Into South Bay Police's Patrol Car

The crash happened as officers were conducting enforcement on a group of electric bicycles and electric motorcycles in Hermosa Beach.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA — A South Bay police department is asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect who they say crashed into a patrol officer's car on Labor Day.

Police say a group of electric bicycle and electric motorcycle riders were behaving "unruly" at Pier Plaza on Monday, around 6 p.m.

Officers arrived at the scene, and the group began to ride away from the area, according to the Hermosa Beach Police Department. At some point, one rider came back and crashed into an officer's patrol car, the department added.

It's unclear if the rider purposefully crashed into the car, according to the Hermosa Beach Police Department. The crash caused minor cosmetic damage to the rear of the patrol car.

But since the rider rode away from the scene, police say he is suspected of committing a hit-and-run.

"At this time, we have no indication that the collision was intentional," a spokesperson with the Hermosa Beach Police Department told Patch. "However, because the suspect fled the scene, the circumstances remain under investigation."

The department says they're actively looking into who was involved in the disruptive behavior and understand that some people may have been filming during the incident.

The Hermosa Beach Police Department asks that anyone who may have photos or videos of what happened contact them at 310-524-2750.

"Unfortunately, e-bikers fleeing from officers has become a common occurrence," the department said in a statement on social media Tuesday. "Investigators have found success in identifying and charging those who flee at a later time."
