Facing Financial Difficulties, Redondo Beach Hopes For Better Days Ahead: Report
Redondo Beach Mayor Jim Light announced at the 2025 State of the City last week that the city had to dip into reserve funds this year.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — Redondo Beach is facing financial difficulties, forcing officials to dip into the city's reserve funds to establish its budget for the next fiscal year, according to a report from the Daily Breeze.
Mayor Jim Light announced during a State of the City presentation on Wednesday, June 18, that Redondo Beach had a $3.5 million budget deficit this year, exacerbated by several challenges, including reduced grants, along with state and federal funding, according to the report.
But Light was hopeful for the future of Redondo Beach's economy, saying developers and businesses have been enticed by the beach city's popular events, such as the yearly BeachLife festival and a new surf club, according to the report. Light also sees the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2028 Olympics as lucrative economic opportunities for Redondo Beach to return to its former glory, according to the report.
