The declining cost of crude oil—currently, a barrel of benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude is trading for $99.21 on the New York Mercantile Exchange—appears to be fueling the decreases, analysts said. The price of a barrel of crude oil has fallen 13 percent since reaching a two-year high of $113.93 on April 29.

Crude oil costs account for up to three-quarters of the price of a gallon of gasoline, said Western States Petroleum Association spokesman Tupper Hull.
