Obama: Osama Bin Laden Dead

Osama bin Laden was killed in a fire fight with U.S. forces in Pakistan on Sunday, according to President Barack Obama.

Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, is dead, President Barack Obama announced in a speech Sunday night.

"The United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, leader of al-Qaida," he said.

According to Obama, bin Laden was killed by U.S. forces in a fire fight in Pakistan. Officials have bin Laden's body.

CNN reported that, in a statement to the broadcast network, former President George W. Bush said he congratulated Obama.

"America has sent an unmistakeable message: no matter how long it takes, justice will be done," Bush said in the statement.

Twitter was abuzz with the news.

Sean Kelleher in Redondo Beach said, "I don't think shows should have been interrupted for this Osama hullaballoo. It should have been in a ticker, so people can CHOOSE to watch."

Many other residents "re-tweeted" a tweet from voiceover artist Jerry Pulles.

"First he destroys Trump and now he's gonna announce that Osama is dead. Barack Obama is having the best week ever!" tweeted Pulles, whose Twitter page indicates he's in Redondo Beach.

In response to the news of bin Laden's death, residents behind the South Bay Facebook page wrote: YES !!

On Hermosa Beach Patch's Facebook profile, Jaren Barredo commented: "ok... What now?"
