Taco Spot In Redondo Beach Named Among Best In America By Yelp

REDONDO BEACH, CA — It's no secret that Los Angeles is home to some of the very best tacos in the U.S. Now, that fact has been backed up by Yelp with its crowning of one LA taqueria as the No. 1 best taco spot in the country.

Yelp's top pick — Birrieria Familia Castro in North Hollywood — is one of 20 LA County restaurants that appear on the site's Top 100 Taco Spots of 2025. The top 100 also includes Tigres Fuego in Redondo Beach.

“Our birria is a family tradition passed down from my grandmother, who learned it from her mother,” Birrieria Familia Castro co-owner Anthony Castro told Yelp.

The Castros' birria recipe is closely guarded. Yelp says the Tijuana street food — slow-stewed beef with consomé for dipping — continues to be a popular focus among its top-rated taquerias. It's No. 2 pick, New York City's Birria-Landia, has its own take on the dish.

And Yelp identified a less-familiar take on the handheld food as a rising trend in its list: vampiro tacos. The dish features tortillas griddled until charred, chewy and curled up like bat wings, then folded. The popular street food from Sinaloa, Mexico is particularly popular in LA.

Birrieria Familia Castro has them on its menu, as does Yelp's No. 10 spot — Mariscos El Chito in El Sereno — and at its No. 40 pick, Tacos El Vampiro in Sylmar.

Yelp's picks represent what Angelenos know to be true: The best food in the city can be found at a Michelin starred restaurant, at a taco stand on the side of the road, from a food truck, or in someone's garage.
