As part of the Learning Center, Kleen helps seventh- and eighth-grade students with math and language arts. She also teaches seventh-grade students reading development.

In her email recognizing Kleen for her excellent work, Moreno said her son was in Kleen's class for two years, and though he graduated from middle school four years ago, he still receives Christmas cards from his former teacher every year.
"It tells me that she really cares about and appreciates her students," Moreno told Patch. "A great teacher does not just 'work' with your children for a year, and then they are gone from their life.

"A great teacher, such as Mrs. Kleen, makes a lifelong connection with her students and takes action in keeping them a part of his [or] her life."
