'Visual Harmony': These 5 Women Bring A Distinct Artistic Voice In New South Bay Exhibit

HERMOSA BEACH, CA — A new exhibit at the Gallery of Hermosa will feature five creative voices that channel inspiration through their photography, paintings and other artwork.

The "Five Muses" celebrates the art and voices of five women — Fumie Coello, Debbie Giese, Eileen Oda, Jen Hellman and Anabella Rainer.

"Each artist serves as a muse, not just a subject, but a creative force," Gallery of Hermosa Founder Kimie Joe told Patch. "Each of these women brings a distinct artistic voice, rooted in unique life experiences, mediums, and creative philosophies."

Coello creates oil paintings influenced by classic rock music, vintage fashion and the beauty of nature. Giese uses expressive movement and color. Oda has a unique process called exsculpainting that allows her to combine painting and sculpting on canvas, creating textured paintings. Hellman blends photography and mixed media to create deeply layered imagery that references cultural experiences and identity. Rainer, meanwhile, can capture the essence of human emotion in her paintings.

"When presented together, their work forms a visual harmony," Joe said. "The exhibit reveals how diverse approaches to art can coexist and resonate with viewers on multiple levels."

The exhibit is already on display as of Thursday. But it will have an opening reception on Friday, July 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibit will run through Aug. 3 and is free to visit.

Gallery of Hermosa is located at 138 Pier Ave. in Hermosa Beach. Its hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
