Pro Volleyball Players To Compete For $150,000 Grand Prize At This South Bay Event

HERMOSA BEACH, CA — The Hermosa Beach Open returns to the South Bay next week, with professional volleyball players competing in a four-day tournament for a $150,000 grand prize.

The free event, presented by financial services firm Wedbush, will take place from Thursday, Sept. 4, to Sunday, Sept. 7. It'll feature 32 men's and 32 women's teams competing in a double-elimination format, according to the event's organizers.

The 2024 men's champions, Chase Budinger and Miles, along with Women's champion Kelly Cheng, will return to the tournament in hopes of retaining their titles.

“Playing in the Hermosa Beach Open is special to me because it’s where I got my very first win," Budinger said in a statement Tuesday. "Nothing beats competing in front of all your family and friends with a local vibe. I’m grateful to be back at Hermosa—this tournament always brings out something extra in me."

Phil Daulhausser, who won gold at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, will also take part in the competition.

Games start each morning at 9 a.m., except on Sunday, which will have an 8:30 a.m. start. The games will take place on the courts north of the Hermosa Beach Pier and will be streamed live on the Hermosa Beach Open website.
