Woman Killed Crossing Street

An elderly Redondo Beach resident was struck and killed while crossing Avenue C on Monday, according to a news release from the .

Melania Nuhbegovic, 86, was in the crosswalk when the vehicle hit her, police said. The driver stopped and tried to help her; he was not arrested or cited, and traffic investigator Jeff Mendence told the Daily Breeze that the driver did not appear to be under the influence of anything.

Nuhbegovic was transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The collision is still under investigation, police said.
