1K Pounds Of Illegal Fireworks Seized On The Peninsula: RC Police

Three men were apprehended in connection with the seizure that brought in the San Mateo Co. Bomb Squad.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A Redwood City man was booked into San Mateo County Jail, while two South San Francisco men were cited and released in connection with an illegal fireworks bust that led to the seizure of 1,000 pounds of the explosives, the sheriff's department reported Friday.

The evidence was significant enough to bring out the county bomb squad to ensure the safe disposal of the fireworks, officials said.

Jesus Miguel Cuevas, 18, Francisco Alberto Garibay, 21, and Jesus Garibay, 22, tried to flee when deputies conducted a follow-up call related to an earlier call Thursday on the 3500 block of Hoover Street in Redwood City and returned with a search warrant to collect the cache of fireworks, sheriff's deputies added. Cuevas of Redwood City faces a felony, while the other two men were issued misdemeanor citations.
