2 Dead In Liquor Store Fire In Redwood City: Police

When fire crews arrived they found the building fully engulfed in flames, police said.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Two people were found dead in a liquor store fire after crews extinguished the flames Monday morning in Redwood City, police said.

At around 5:30 a.m., Redwood City firefighters responded to an active fire at Avenue Liquor Store on Roosevelt Avenue. When they arrived, firefighters found the building fully engulfed in flames, police said.

While battling the fire, fire crews opened the roof and observed what appeared to be two people inside the building who showed no signs of life and appeared to have severe burns.

Once firefighters deemed the building safe to enter, Redwood City Police Department officers said they confirmed there were two people inside who had died.

Police have not released the identities of the deceased at this time. Officers said they do not know why they were in the store when the fire began.

Police said they contacted the owner and they are cooperating with investigators.

"Additional information will be released as it becomes available. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones affected by this tragic incident," police said.
